Espinal, where Tolima throbs

Espinal is the rice Capital of Colombia. The rice, San Pedro festival and its gastronomic wealth are an important part of this town.
Espinal is located in the way to Bogota to 48 km from Ibague; “el monumento a la tambora” gives a warm welcome to tourists.
From there is produced and distributed a big quantity of the rice that colombians eat. So much, those important enterprises like “florhuila” and “Roa” have their operations centre there. Espinal is distinguished too for the cotton, sesame, sorghum and tobacco.



Prado, earthly paradise, The lagoon’s mystery

A mysterious lake located in the “Cerro Corrales”, to 300 meters of high, is a cause of respect and terror in the region.                                                                                                                                     Respect, because getting there is quite a feat. You must navigate through the dam for 30 minutes, crossing two sharp hills and walk for several hours. And terror because to get there as the legend says “the wind that blows from the lagoon is terrifying noise it produces is impressive, as shouting. High freezes. Climb is difficult, but lower, better not to say it"                                                                       It is said that the lagoon is inhabited by a goose with golden calves, which hovers the region at holy week.
Economically dependent on three specific activities: agriculture, aquaculture and tourism. It is a leading producer of rice in the department. Also it produces coffee in their area of mountains, banana and some citrus. Fish farming excels in its economy with crop species nourished like “mojarra”, “bocachico”, “doncella” y “capaz”.
