It was composed of Alberto Castilla y letter of Nicanor Velázquez Ortiz, is sung in all the official events of Tolima.By Order No. 023 of June 21, 2001, it was declared as an official letter of Anthem of the Department of Tolima, the Nicanor Velázquez Ortiz Bunde.
The shield of the department of Tolima, was adopted by Act of December 7, 1815, by the United Chambers of the Province of Mariquita, sanctioned by the hero José León Armero, governor and commander. In 1861, it was taken to the Sovereign State of Tolima, by decree of April 12, signed by General Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera, as recorded in the official record No.12 of September 7, 1861.
The flag of the Department of Tolima, consists of two horizontal stripes, a burgundy color that symbolizes the blood shed by the heroes tolimenses in the struggles for independence and the other yellow symbolizing the mineral wealth of the department.
